ABOUT PINTAIL CANDLES
Celebrating 25 years of Candle Making
With a leap of faith and lots of ideas, James started Pintail Candles in 1993 at a time when the candle market was dominated by big manufacturers and the number of small boutique candle makers could be counted on one hand.
With the support of his wife Fiona, and using his mother in law’s basement as his workshop, James started making his first pillar and taper candles. After a couple of years he moved his workshop to a converted milking parlour in a small hamlet in the Lake District National Park. It was at this time that Pintail Candles became one of the first candle makers in the UK to produce candle tins, a product which they have been associated with ever since.
With a growing business, Fiona joined the firm full time and Pintail Candles moved to its current location in Flookburgh, a small fishing village in South Lakeland where cockles, mussels and the famous Morecambe Bay shrimps are harvested. The bay is also home to a wide variety of wildfowl. As a keen nature enthusiast, James named his business after the beautiful Pintail duck which nests in the surrounding wetlands and marshes.
A commitment to the local area is at the heart of Pintail Candles and the beautiful scenery and nature of Cumbria and the Lake District are a constant source of inspiration. And over the years creating jobs for local people has been one of James’ and Fiona’s proudest achievements including providing family-friendly flexible working hours.
Pintail Candles is now firmly established as one of the UK’s premium candle makers with a reputation for developing fine fragrances and candles in fashionable colours, classic styling and at accessible prices.
All products are still designed and produced on our site in Flookburgh, and our candles are hand poured by a highly skilled local workforce.
Pintail Candles have provided a personal customer service supplying retailers over many years. Our very first retailer was Clive Wilson of Yew Tree Barn and Clive is still a customer today, over twenty years later.
On our website you will find a full list of colours and fragrance descriptions but it is not always easy to appreciate the quality and style of a fragrance from a description so we invite you to come along and visit our stand at one of the trade fairs that we attend.
